Top 10 wedding venues in Tallahassee, FL
November 22, 2010 | Filed Under business, weddings | 8 Comments
It is often said that, there aren’t any good wedding venues in our fair city of Tallahassee so I put together a little list for us to peruse. I often travel for weddings and would like to spend more time closer to home.
I’ve had the fortunate experience to shoot at all of these locations except for the Alumni Center which I will get to do in March.
I have to admit, of the list below…Pebble Hill Plantation is my favorite venue although it is not in Tallahassee per se. But Thomasville and Tallahassee are practically one! Shhh. Some folks may not love that I said that.
I would love to have feedback from you! Which is your favorite of the Tallahassee wedding venues below and why? Is there a venue you like that I failed to include? Is there one here that you think does not deserve to be on the Tallahassee Top 10 list? I am eager to hear your thoughts and that means YOU TOO PHOTOGRAPHERS!!
- Southwood House and Cottages
- University Center Club
- Pebble Hill Plantation
- Governor’s Inn
- Dorothy B. Oven Park
- Maclay Gardens
- Goodwood Museum and Gardens
- FSU Alumni Center
- Golden Eagle Country Club
- Mission San Luis
emi + andrew | wedding photography | branford, florida

Here’s a sneak peek of Emi and Andrew’s wedding in Branford, FL. The wedding ceremony and reception was on her family’s land and farm. We got to go do portraits at their limestone mine and climb all over tractor’s and old trucks. That was seriously some treacherous terrain and I’m amazed how easier Emi seemed to meanouver it in her heels.
I loved how relaxed and easy the whole day was even though one of the most amazing things happened right before the wedding… two of the brides maids were pregnant and just so happened to need a hospital visit with signs of labor.
One of the bridesmaids is Andrew’s sister and on October 23rd, Andrew’s family welcomed two new family members. Emi and a sweet new bundle of joy! (which I hope I get to take pictures of!)
Enjoy and stay tuned….more to come soon.

tallahassee food gardens | man in overalls | gardening classes
November 1, 2010 | Filed Under events | Leave a Comment
some of you may have seen photographs of the raised garden that the “man in overalls” installed in my backyard this past spring. my family and i have truly enjoyed the experience of learning to garden and have relished eating food that we grew ourselves!
nathan ballentine aka the man in overalls is putting in raised gardens all over tallahassee. he also educates via speaking engagements, workshops and classes. he calls himself an “urban agricultural social entrepreneur” and on top of all that….i think he is truly one of the sweetest men i have ever met!
i was invited to participate and document a class he recently taught to children with special needs and i wanted to share a few of the photographs with you here. the weather was lovely, the people were delightful, i learned a lot and i cant wait to do this again!

i was contemplating the holidays and what they meant to me. what came to mind was family, togetherness and warm cookies! what came next was the idea for a holiday session that can catch your family in a little bit of real life. there were chips, eggs, flour and vanilla mixed together to make chocolate chip cookies, beautiful images…..and a mess too!
thank you to the coleman family for sharing your home and cookies with me! this session was so much fun!

when newborns are photographed within the first 10 days, they sleep constantly (except for moms and dads at night) and are easy to mold like clay. look at how sweet emma was today. kind of makes me want to have another one.

the weather is teasing us with a hint that it might start cooling off. i, who never wishes for cold, am so ready for summer to be over because it was pretty brutal this year! in just a couple months the mad shopping rush will begin, holiday lights and trees will be thrown up and all manner of cards will be mailed with that old fashioned system called the postal service.
now, is the perfect time to schedule your family portrait session. before the holiday craziness sets in and schedules get erratic.
book your session for october or november and receive a complimentary box of linen holiday cards.
